Environmental Power Generation with Zero Emission of CO2 and NOx. (Oslo Stock Exchange press release.)

The technology company ZENG AS was recently formed by Lyse, CO2-Norway, Nebb Engineering and Procom Venture. The new company shall develop and commercialise technology and expertise for zero emission power generation using natural gas.

The power generation process being developed will result in zero emission of both CO2 and NOx, and will be an alternative to conventional gas-fired power plants with CO2 capture from the exhaust gases.

The Managing Director, Frank Blaker says;

--The main challenge for ZENG AS is to demonstrate that this process can achieve satisfactory efficiency so that zero emission power generation with CO2 capture becomes economic and competitive. There remains detailed engineering and development work ahead, and the process will need to be implemented and tested in a demonstration plant before being ready for commercial use in large-scale power production.

--ZENG AS has therefore initiated an extended concept definition study with financial support from Lyse, Statoil, Shell and Gassnova. Results from this will then provide basis for investment in a demonstration plant at the Energy Park, Risavika.

--The core new technology is a gas generator developed by Clean Energy Systems (CES) that enables combustion of natural gas and oxygen to form CO2 and steam. This is then expanded through turbines for production of electric power. Subsequently the CO2 is removed when the steam condenses.

--The gas generator has been developed as a spin-off from the U.S. space industry and has already been demonstrated on a smaller scale by CES in their pilot power plant in California.

--Investment decision for construction of a demonstration plant at Risavika is scheduled for first-half 2007; and it will be constructed so that the technology is also appropriate for large-scale power generation, that is 400 Megawatt and capable of producing up to 3 Terawatt-hours per annum.
